I was flipping through a memorial page on FB, showcasing pictures of soldiers hailing from my hometown of St Louis Park, MN. I didn’t know these young men, many who were only 20 when they were killed. I couldn’t help but compare these boys to other current images posted of 20 somethings after the election Tuesday. Are the kids who are demonstrating anything like these boys who never came home? Do kids these days understand what it is to fight and die for freedom while they’re burning our flag? Change, respect and understanding of your fellow American is something we can all take responsibility for. We need to model this to our young people. Now and forever.

Work vs Talent

Sometimes we think talent always wins. Not so. Hard work will beat talent if talent doesn’t show up.
Show up a be a winner.

I’m planning a wedding in December. Not a huge wedding, but a memorable one. So I visit the baker, dress maker and the bar where the after-party is going to be. I collect business cards and let the vendors know I’ll be getting back to them.
Fast forward a few weeks and I’m sending follow-up emails to set up times and get folks paid. Guess what? No replies. For days. I finally receive one email from the baker. Nice enough.
So the burning question is: What’s happened to customer service in America? I’m intentionally choosing local vendors, but I cant work with folks who don’t want a paycheck! If you’re a local business crying about people not using local services anymore, then make sure your business deserves a phone call.

Bridge Building

Sometimes its easier to make light of people than it is to learn their point of view. If we don’t understand where and how a person is coming to their line of thinking, how can we pass judgment?
It is more difficult to invest time learning about and understanding others and their needs, but well worth the time to build that bridge.
Selling is a challenging art. It’s a delicate dance of barter between merchant and buyer. Its a display of perfect elocution to deliver a musical symphony to the buyer, such a beautiful thing the buyer cannot help to respond and appreciate.

I guess the point of permission marketing is to share who you are and give of yourself. I’ve never blogged before and so here goes, this is me.
Its interesting how some things you plan just aren’t meant to be. This morning, for example. I had a meeting scheduled with a local accountant, who was going to attempt to help me learn QuickBooks (good luck). But, she texted me at the last minute she wouldn’t be able to make it because her elderly greyhound had gotten sick (both ends, she tells me) all over her house.  So, I of course replied and said we’d try another time and slapped my snooze again. After a few more minutes of delicious slumber I check email and end up playing a new interview with Seth Godin, the marketing genius…..telling me to start blogging and giving of myself. Some things are just meant to be. I guess I’m going to be blogging and learning to write. So here is me.
